How to Download Images from Pinterest

To save a Pinterest image in full resolution: hover the pin and click the download button the Pinterest Image Downloader Chrome extension adds — it saves to your Downloads folder as the original file, not the resized preview Pinterest shows on the page. There are 4 methods in total; each is below, step by step.

Add to Chrome

Method 1 · No extension

Right-Click and Save the Image

  1. Click a pin to open it — in the feed, Pinterest layers links over the picture, so right-clicking there usually targets the link, not the image.
  2. Right-click the large image on the pin page.
  3. Choose Save image as… and pick a folder.

This works, and for a quick reference shot it's all you need. The catch is quality: the pin page displays a resized copy — commonly 736 pixels wide — rather than the file that was uploaded, so a right-click saves that smaller version. For animated pins it's worse: Pinterest's resized previews are static, so you often get a frozen frame instead of the GIF. If the image is going anywhere that matters — a mood board, a print, a design file — you'll want the original.

Method 2 · The fast lane

Hover Any Pin with the Extension

The Pinterest Image Downloader extension adds a download button to every pin and always requests the original, full-resolution file. Once it's installed, saving an image takes one hover and one click:

  1. 1

    Install the extension

Add Pinterest Image Downloader to Chrome from the Chrome Web Store. There is no account to create and nothing to configure.

  2. 2

Open Pinterest and find your image

Go to pinterest.com and browse to the image you want — in the home feed, in search results, or on a board.

  3. 3

    Hover over the pin

Rest your cursor on the image. A download button appears on the pin.

  4. 4

    Click the download button

The image is saved to your Downloads folder in its original resolution through Chrome's download manager.

Method 3 · From a link

Paste a Pin Link into the Popup

When the image reaches you as a link — a friend shares a pin from the Pinterest app, or you saved a URL for later — you don't have to hunt it down on the site. Click the extension icon in Chrome's toolbar, paste the link, and press Download. Full pinterest.com/pin/ URLs and short pin.it share links both work, and the saved file is the same full-resolution original the hover button fetches. More detail on all three single-image flows lives in the Pinterest photo downloader guide.

Method 4 · In bulk

Download a Whole Board as a ZIP

Saving pins one by one stops making sense around pin ten. For an entire collection, open the board and click the Download board button the extension adds to the board's header — every pin on the board (images, GIFs, and videos) is fetched in original quality and packed into a single ZIP file, with board sections preserved as folders. You can pause and resume mid-download, and there's no cap on board size. The full walkthrough is in the Pinterest board downloader guide.

Quick answer

Which Method Should You Use?

  • One image, quality doesn't matter: right-click on the pin page. No install needed.
  • One image in full resolution: hover it with the extension, or use the download button next to Save on the pin page.
  • You only have a link: paste it into the extension popup — pin.it short links included.
  • A whole collection: the board button — one ZIP, sections as folders.

Everything the extension does is covered on the Pinterest Image Downloader home page; the install takes a few seconds and works right away.

FAQ

Common Questions

Can I download a Pinterest image in full resolution?

Yes. The Pinterest Image Downloader extension requests the original uploaded file, so images save at full resolution instead of the resized 736 px preview the pin page shows.

How do I download a Pinterest image without an account?

No account is needed. Install the Pinterest Image Downloader Chrome extension, hover any pin, and click the download button — there is no sign-up or login at any step.

Why is my right-click save from Pinterest blurry or small?

Pinterest's pin page displays a resized copy, commonly 736 px wide, so right-click then Save image as… saves that smaller version rather than the original upload. A downloader extension fetches the full-resolution file instead.

Can I download a whole Pinterest board at once?

Yes. The extension adds a Download board button that saves every pin — images, GIFs, and videos — into one ZIP in original quality, with board sections kept as folders, and no cap on board size.

Does it download Pinterest videos and GIFs too?

Yes. The same extension saves Pinterest videos as MP4 and GIFs with every frame, alongside static images, using the hover button or a pasted link.

How do I download a Pinterest image from a link?

Click the extension icon in Chrome's toolbar, paste the pin URL, and press Download. Full pinterest.com/pin/ links and short pin.it links both work, and the file saves at full resolution.
