Three Ways to Save a Pinterest Photo
1. Hover over any pin in the feed
Browse Pinterest exactly as you normally do. When your cursor rests on a pin — in the home feed, in search results, or on a board — a download button appears on the image. One click saves the photo at full resolution and you keep scrolling. No new tabs, no copying links.
2. Paste a pin link into the popup
Got a link instead of a page? Click the extension icon in Chrome's toolbar, paste any pin URL, and hit Download. Both full pinterest.com/pin/ links and the short pin.it links that Pinterest's mobile app shares are accepted — handy when someone sends you a pin in a chat.
3. Use the button on the pin page
When you open a pin to see it up close, the extension adds a download button right next to Pinterest's Save button. If you're already looking at the photo you want, it's the shortest path from "I like this" to "it's on my disk".
Original files
Full Resolution, Not the Feed Preview
What Pinterest displays in the feed is a compressed preview, resized to a few hundred pixels. This photo downloader ignores it and requests the original upload from Pinterest's image servers — the same file the pin was created with, whether that's a phone photo or a 4K render. If an original isn't available for a pin, it falls back to the largest size Pinterest hosts, so the saved photo is always the sharpest copy that exists.
The same rule covers animated pins: Pinterest's resized previews of a GIF are static images, and only the original file keeps the animation. The extension fetches that original, so a GIF pin is saved as a real animated .gif — not a frozen frame. Video pins are saved as MP4 files.
No setup
Install Once, Download Anything
There is no account to create, no watermark on the files, and no daily quota. Photos land in your Downloads folder through Chrome's own download manager, named and saved like any other file. And when one photo isn't enough, the same extension can download an entire board as a ZIP in one go.

Ordinary Files, Ordinary Downloads
- Straight from Pinterest to you. The photo travels directly from Pinterest's image servers to your disk — it never passes through a third-party server, and nothing is re-compressed on the way.
- Standard formats. You get the file in the format the pin was uploaded in — typically JPEG or PNG for photos, .gif for animations, MP4 for videos — so it opens in any viewer or editor without conversion.
- Ready for real work. Full-resolution originals hold up where feed previews fall apart: printed mood boards, desktop wallpapers, client presentations, or a reference library for design projects.
FAQ
Common Questions
How do I download a photo from Pinterest in full resolution?
Install the Pinterest Image Downloader Chrome extension, then hover the pin and click the download button, or paste the pin link into the toolbar popup. It requests the original uploaded file, so the photo saves at full resolution instead of the compressed feed preview.
Can I download Pinterest photos without an account?
Yes. There is no account to create, no watermark, and no daily quota. Install the extension and photos save straight to your Downloads folder.
Does it save Pinterest GIFs as animated files?
Yes. The extension fetches the original file, so a GIF pin saves as a real animated .gif rather than the static frame Pinterest shows in the feed.
What resolution are the downloaded photos?
The original uploaded resolution. Pinterest's feed shows a preview resized to a few hundred pixels; the extension pulls the full-size original from Pinterest's image servers, or the largest size available if no original is hosted.
Where do the downloaded photos go?
Photos save to your Downloads folder through Chrome's own download manager, in the pin's original format — usually JPEG or PNG — with nothing re-compressed on the way.
Can I download a photo from a Pinterest link?
Yes. Click the extension icon in Chrome's toolbar, paste a full pinterest.com/pin/ link or a short pin.it link, and press Download.
